Tecmo Super Bowl
Console: Nintendo Entertainment System
Release Date: 1991
Tecmo Super Bowl is a game that has brought many years of entertainment. I used to play the original Tecmo Bowl and I remember how much fun that was, but then one day Boom here comes the super version. This game was made at a time that I believe to be the peak of NFL greatness, you had Joe Montana,John Elway,Jerry Rice and even Barry Sanders. This game is a football fans fantasy, it is fun in every sense of the word. It also had a save battery so you could play a season and not have to play it all in one night. And how could I write about this game without mentioning Bo Jackson he is one of the cheapest and most bad ass characters in any football game.
Game Play:9/10
I give this game such a high rating for the responsive controls and the smoothness of everything. Evey thing seems to be a comfortable fit together, when you move your player it feels like you are in complete control. there are people who are so good at this that they can run back and forth across the field, amazing. Being able to choose from 8 different plays, and customize your play book is just cool for the time. there is an in depth stats screen that records everything from touchdowns to sacks.there are ratings for each player some are fast and some are tough to bring down. You can substitute in players on offense, and there are injuries and even half time. The game play is as close to a real NFL experience you can get on the NES.
Graphics:6/10
The graphics in this game are okay for an NES game. the graphics are not bad but just okay. The best part I would say is the animation between different plays and at half time. they are nice additions to the action and game play.
This rating would be higher because of the animations, but the color scheme is off for a lot of teams. Like for instance the Seattle Seahawks are pink. but you know Graphic aren't everything they just spice up an already good game, just a little
Music:5/10
Well I can say this in all honesty when I first played this game the music was awesome. But after awhile it is just repetitive and I find myself turning it off most of the time. it's not bad just over the years I have noticed it is very average, it holds up well enough to keep this game in contention in the top 100
Replay:7/10
This game is very re playable, it is a great multi player title that is very fun with a friend . Now I know this is a sports title and that may push some away. But just think people are still playing an NES game in organized tournaments in 2014 craziness. Hell I pick this game up every year or so and play a season"I always have to change history and make the Broncos win the super bowl". This game I believe has lasted the test of time mostly because of how fun it is
Nostalgia:8/10
I played this game a lot when I was younger. me and a couple friends would get together and play for hours. I think the coolest thing was all the old legendary player like I mentioned earlier"Steve Atwater is my favorite". Those guys were all legends when we were kids and Tecmo super bowl was the closest thing to going outside and tossing around the football.
Story:5/10
Well this is the one category that doesn't really fit with a sports game. There is no real story here so I gave it an average rating.
Bonus:5/10
I gave this game 5 bonus points because I played it a lot and it has always been pretty fun.
Over all rating 45/70
This game is in my opinion the best Sports game ever made. I don't think it will ever get better then this in terms of casual fans being able to pick up and have fun with a sports title, it 's just not like that nowadays. If you are and NES or NFL fan and haven't played this game before you must be living in a cave somewhere.
